Season 54 was our first in the OCM after spending many years riding as a local cycling club. Judge Archer had long been convinced that he could keep up in the professional peloton, and eventually he sold his collection of Nike shoes he had been hoarding since childhood in order to sponsor the team into a few Division 10 races.
The team had immediate success, attracted some new sponsors, and was able to start hiring some of Judge's friends. Old men convinced they could keep up. We even managed to find Jarvis Teague, an incredible sprinter with a limited skill set. He rides for the US National team, and we truly value his experience within our squad.
It turned out they were mostly correct. A few more results allowed us to hire Tony Westby, an aging professional with a 52 average, to anchor the team for a while longer.
By the end of the season, we had reached Division 6 with a "Real" sprinting squad and our first Trainee, Windy Arryn.
Because of our late start into the OCM ranks, we have until day 30 to gain 100 points from our initial lowest division races...or we will soon drop. It would probably be good for us to drop down to division 7 or 8 where we could aim for podium places, but we will continue to do our best.
Over the next season we hope to do a few things:
1) Complete Windy Arryn's training. Who knows, maybe he is able to max high and get some top 10s in balanced races.
2) Find more "Scot"s. We hope to have a full team of riders from Scotland or with Scot in their name. It is silly, but our sponsors are silly, and so we do it.
3) We will hopefully hire a PR Manager, so that someone else can take over writing these kinds of things.
Hopefully, remove our reliance on non-Scot riders. Until we can remove them entirely, we will limit ourselves to 6. Again. Silly. But we are silly. Directly related, we will not allow staff that are not Scots either.
Happy New Season!
